Obituary of Sister Grace Zizza MPF

Sr. Grace Zizza MPF, 85, died peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2021, at St. Joseph Hall, Morristown, NJ.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 8, beginning at 2:00 p.m., in St. Lucy Chapel, Villa Walsh, Morristown, NJ, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4:00 p.m.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the services are limited to family members and Religious Teachers Filippini.  The services will be livestreamed.  See the website www.filippiniusa.org for the link.  

Born in Newark, NJ, Sr. Grace entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1952.  She received the habit in 1953 and made her religious profession in 1956.

Sr. Grace was awarded an AA diploma by Villa Walsh Junior College and received a BS degree from the University of Akron, Akron Ohio, having majored in Elementary Education.

In her 68 years of religious life, Sr. Grace taught elementary and middle school grades in the following (arch)dioceses: Cleveland, Hartford, Metuchen, Newark, Norwich, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Trenton.  Also, Sr. Grace was appointed convent superior of St. James, Trenton, NJ, St. Mary of Mt. Virgin, New Brunswick, NJ and St. Cecelia, Iselin, NJ. After her years of teaching, she continued her service as librarian of St. Cecelia School in Iselin. In 2012, Sr. Grace retired to St. Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown, NJ.

In 1991, Sr. Grace was selected by her colleagues and honored by the Diocese of Metuchen in their Celebration of Excellence in Education. This award was a recognition of her dedication and contribution to Catholic education.

Sr. Grace is predeceased by her parents Rocco Zizza and Grace Micca, and her five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
