Obituary of Ann Navatto
Ann Navatto, 99, known as “Nana” to her nieces and nephews, died peacefully at Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. She was born in the family home in Raritan on June 25, 1923 to Joseph Navatto, Sr and Anna Carnevale Navatto.
She attended Raritan Public Schools and was a member of the first class to graduate from the eighth grade at Washington School. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1941.
After graduating from high school she began working for her father in the family insurance business, The Navatto Agency, located in Raritan. After the passing of her father in 1954, she became one of the first licensed female insurance agents in the area and continued to run the agency until she retired in the 1980’s.
She enjoyed reading, ordering from QVC, and watching cooking shows. She was an outstanding cook learning from her mother how to make amazing Italian dishes. She also enjoyed baking cookies and cakes.
Ann was predeceased by her parents Anna and Joseph Navatto, her brothers Joseph and his wife Lilian, Patrick and his wife Katherine, Bernard and his wife Violet, Albert and his wife Minerva and her sisters Stella Liptak and her husband Joseph, Marguerite Perrine and her husband Charles, and her great-nephew, Joseph D’Ambola.
She is survived by her nieces Lilyan Navatto, former Raritan Mayor Jo-Ann Liptak and her husband Victor Nazario, Peggy Gens and her husband Wayne, Jeanne Robinson and her husband Tucker, her nephews Joseph B. Navatto and his wife June and Bernard Navatto and his wife Barbara and many great nieces/nephews and great-great nieces/nephews. Although she never married and had children of her own, she adored and treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ (908) 725-1887. Viewing will take place on Thursday March 16, 2023 between 9:30am and 10:30am at the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am at St. Ann Church, 45 Anderson St., Raritan, NJ.
