Obituary of Stanley John Wellinsky

Please share a memory of Stanley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stanley John Wellinsky was born on March 31st, 1937 in Monticello, N.Y.  He passed away on January 4th, 2024, at the age of 86, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Stanley is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia Ann Wellinsky. She was there for him to the very end, taking care of him as his health declined. He was the oldest of three children. His younger brother, Francis predeceased him and he has a surviving sister, Rose Mariano.  Also surviving, are his three children. Wayne, his oldest son, and his wife, Carolyn; Steven and his wife, Sandra; and his daughter, Christa. He has six grandchildren. In order of age: Taylor and his wife, Morgan, who are both expecting the family’s first great grandchild in April; Casey, Hunter, Nicole and her husband, Zac, McKinlee, and Maddock. Stanley was a devoted family man and took great pride in all his children and grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his family.

Stanley graduated high school and immediately enlisted in the Airforce in 1955. He proudly served his country as an airplane mechanic for over 21 years, before he retired in 1976.  His second career was an auto mechanic, working at Somerville Dodge on Route 22 in Somerville, N.J.  When he finally retired in 2006, they moved to Kernersville, North Carolina, to be closer to his son Wayne, daughter Christa, and their families.

Stanley was a great man who was always willing to lend a hand to family members, friends, neighbors and even people he did not know. He was a diehard Yankee Fan and a lover of all dogs. He would proudly tell everyone that all dogs loved him unconditionally, including any mean ones. He was extremely handy with home repairs, worked on cars, and fixed almost anything that would break.   He had almost every tool anyone could ever need and his kids and grandsons could always count on him when they needed something for a home project.

Even when his illness worsened and his memory faded, he was always warm, affectionate, and caring. Anyone who met Stanley knew how proud he was to serve his country and would never catch him without his Vietnam veteran hat.  He will be remembered for loving with his whole heart and soul and his very honest opinions that will be missed very, very dearly.
