Maerene was a dear friend for more than 15 years. We met at Rutgers University where I was pursuing an undergraduate degree in Religion and Maerene audited many of the Religion Courses. Maerene was an avid spiritual seeker who practiced meditation and she was curious about all religious traditions even as she remained faithful to the Lutheran faith. We often traveled together to California and Arizona. I
