Obituary of Maerene Schroedel

Maerene Schroedel, 89, died on August 22, 2020 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown NJ.  She was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 5, 1931 to her dear parents Pearl Marie Robinson and Blakeney Chittenden Trace.  She graduated with a BS degree from Pratt Institute in 1952.  She was a Home Economics teacher for a few years in the New York School District.  Maerene was a life long learner and enjoyed studying a variety of topics.

Maerene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.  Her granddaughter Erin encouraged her to paint again and once she started she never quit.  She loved birds, butterflies, gardens, travel, and reading her iPad.  Maerene loved her grandchildren and was blessed to live with Ryan and Zachary.  She encouraged them to follow their dreams and loved spending time with each one. She showed unconditional love to everyone she met.

Maerene is survived by loving children Renate Shotwell (husband Jeffrey) Iowa, Grete Straube (husband Eric) Flemington NJ and Erica Rasmussen (husband Eric) Bridgewater NJ and grandchildren, Erin, Kyle, Ryan and Zachary.    She is also survived by her sister in law Irene Althaus.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Herman “Otto” Schroedel (1992), a brother Wayne Althaus and her grandson Junior. 

A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday August 27, 2020 between 3:00pm and 6:00pm at the Bongiovi Funeral Home 416 Bell Avenue Raritan NJ 908-725-1887. In lieu of flowers you may donate to Maerene’s favorite charities the ASPCA, American Indian College Fund and the NJ Audubon.
